What did you think of the movie The Craft?
I became interested in Celtic Methology and first heard of Wicca and
pagan religion in college. However, I have never located information, or
people, to learn more about the subject in the northern reaches of New
Hampshire. My percetion of Wicca and pagan religion was one of harmony
with nature and one of spirtuality. What I saw in The Craft was scary.
It was mean, self-centered, ignorant and even, I am sorry to say, seemed
evil. I have only been exposed to what I have read in books as I do not
know any witches (or don't know that I do) and I hope in my heart the
movie is out of character and misleading!
Sunshine
I became a witch way before I watched the movie. The first time I watched it I thought it was pretty cool,
up to the part right before they invoke the spirit. I still like watching it up to that part, but then I turn it off, the
rest is so unrealistic.
I really wanted to try "Glamour", but it didn't really work, but the
facts about Witchcraft were quite accurate. What I don't understand is that they had a witch on the set while
filming to guide them along, but wouldn't she have thought it was
over-done??

I believe that the movie was about as accurate a movie as Hollywood will come to producing anytime in the near future. Until paganism becomes a widely accepted belief it would do no good to produce an accurate portrayal of our religion. Because as I have found out, people are going to believe what they want to no matter what is told to them. Be it in a movie or by someone in person. I mean have any of you tried to explain to a non-believer that most of us do not practise vengfulness? It just doesn't work. So for now I believe this is the best we can expect.

When I watched the movie "The Craft" I did not like it. I felt that it
was an awful portaial of true Wicca. The only character in the movie
that came close was the shope keeper.

A totally ridiculous movie. I was impressed by the beginning. The end ruined it for me.
I hope you are planning on having the same kind of page for the movie THE CRUCIBLE
Leah
Please note: There will be a Page for The Crucible.
Well.. I've always had a "calling" to the craft. I found the movie
intersting yet blown way out of proportion. Magic is a wonderful thing
but only if you believe it is a part of your soul. You use it to do good and things which will make you at better with yourself and nature. These girls just used it for a good laugh and to get the hot guy at school.
haha hollywood.

Well, my friends and I all saw it together, the night of the premier,
also the Full Moon. We all liked it because it was geared toward our
age group (we were all in college at the time). It had the music we
like and young actresses who looked a little too old for high school.
While we didn't think it was totally accurate, it did have some good
messages, especially about the law of threefold return. I certainly
wasn't offended by it in any way.
Blessed Be-

My coven and I enjoyed the Craft. We have watched it a lot. Its the closest to the real thing I have seen in my hold life. There is this really sucky movie called Little Witches its really sucks. I enjoyed the Craft. Some of the scenes were uncalled for like about that girls hair. It showed the facts of teenage life with a twist of evil.

Well, i saw the Craft when it first came out because i had always been
interested in Wicca. I won't lie to you, that movie was part of the reason i've begun to practice, but once i actually knew somthing about Wicca, i knew the movie was outrageous. I am 17 and i can tell you, the minute i walked out of the theatre i thought i'd hear alot from friends who wanted to be witches. Well, you shouldn't underestimate teens. i hear anything from friends interested in joining, but a few wondered if that was what it was really like. I think alot of us teens took that movie for entertainment value, not as whole truth. I also think that anyone who does take all movies as truth should have their head examined. Did you see The Wizard of OZ? do you really think that people thought the witches in there were real? (although i do like Glinda's response to Dorethy asking whay she wasn't ugly "only evil witches are ugly" :D ) I think that although there were alot of "instant witches" out there, the movie did more good than harm by showing a more accurate picture of what Wicca is really like.
Tigerfox
I really enjoyed The Craft. I know that it's not completely accurate, but a lot of things in Hollywood aren't true. I like how it stressed the importance of witches being "light nor dark" and not to use magick for evil. I thought the movie was very entertaining. :-)
Nicole
I enjoyed parts of The Craft initially, purely for entertainment value,
but by the end I was pretty disgusted. Unfortunately, people believe
what they see, and people remember the bad more than the good. How many
non-wiccans will remember the scene with the butterflies or the healing
scene? Not nearly as many as those who will remember the stealing, the
"glamours", making the car hit a man, causing a girl's hair to fall out, flying, etc, etc. Fellow wiccans bear in mind: anything that is not the whole truth is a lie; that is how the burning times began, by adding in partial truths to the lies until it was too jumbled to be recognized.
Thumbs down.

More Hollywood BS
They take some minor accuracies and twist them into garbage. To bad. I
think it's time for a positive portrayal of our Path.
Bright Blessings to All.
RCFLYER1@aol.com
I loved it too, it showed what everyone wishes they could do by just
repeating a few words. I know it's not realistical but thats okay most
things aren't so get over it and let Hollywood be Hollywood.

Merry met to all,
I seen the movie, and I didn't like it. I didn't find it a bit
entertaining at all. My veiws on movies like this kind is why we have
people out there that would like to do us harm along with our families.
There are alot of people that think just because they see it on the
silver screen it must be true. Good example of this is my friend who is
not a wiccan I had to sit and explain to her the right way of our
beliefs. And what really made it worse is her 12 year old daughter came
up to me and asked are you ever going to hurt me or my mommy. Then weeks
later she gets mad at her little friend and ask me to teach her spells
to get back at her friend. I know that all kids are not like that but
some do think like this. I have notice just on the net along there is
alot of young kids wanted to join the craft because of this terrible
movie and they are getting the wrong signal and start messing with
things that dont know about. And not studying the goddess for the real
reasons from their heart. They are doing it for something bad. And we
wonder why we have to stay in the closet. And teenagers are the way they
are. We all can thank Hollywood for this.
Bright and Loving Blessings,
Emerald Star
I have to admit, even though it doesn't do witches real justice, it comes far closer than any of its predescesors. It shows what could happen if you dabble without knowing what's going on or what to do. Like driving a car without having taken a day of Driver's Ed, odds are, you'll hit something. These girls weren't in it to do good, they were in it for the thrill, for the mystery and the power. Before you try to be like these girls, find out as much as you can, and if possible, an adept to teach you.

Merry Meet!
My whole coven went on a little group trip to see that movie because of our expectations. We all assumed that it was going to be really stupid and bogus. We were not dissappointed. THE CRAFT may be the closest thing we have to a realistic "Witch movie", but that certainly says a lot now doesn't it! The problem I had, was that they made the whole thing look "cool". As if it is the cool thing to do. Now, (And i really feel this,) There are a million teenagers out there trying "witchcraft" without even knowing what they are doing. Of course, we can give the movie credit for the few who actually resurched, and learned something. (too bad they couldn't find "Manogh!"
Amalthia
I saw the movie and I liked it. True it doesn't do wiccans justice, but so far it is the most accurate entertainment movie about witches.
Rianna
I finally got to see "The Crap" as we affectionatly call it here. I was
greatly upset at the whole idea of this misleading piece of trash. Yes, I admit that there was some accuracy in it, but that made it all the worse since the average young girl watching it sees enough reality in it to want to believe all of it. I am a witch living in a small town in
Arkansas, and I work at a video rental store. I am proud of my belief and rather than hide it I do openly wear my pentacle and do get asked alot of questions, mostly by young girls who want to know "can I do that
'glamour' thing". I try to explain to them the best way I can, but with
these preconceived notions already in their minds, it just confuses them
more. Any witch that liked this movie has obviosly not had to deal with
many misled young ladies in short skirts and knee-high socks.
Concerned
I wanted to share my ideas about THE CRAFT. I rented the movie to see what it was about because I had heard many negative things about it. I firmly agree, that as Witches, we need to see this to be able to counter what others walk away from this movie thinking. THE CRAFT was so far from accuracy that it is not funny. It showed nothing but ill mannered girls messing with powers that they did not understand or both to understand. These girls, got way out of control and used something that was meant for good, in an evil way. This movie will give true wiccans a hard time for quite some time till the comotion around THE CRAFT dies down. Till then, we must be careful to make sure we spread the truth, for those truly interested, and discourage the curious teens who want to get their way at any cost.
I just hope that we do not push off the effects of this movie as not
being serious just because it is a movie. It will have lasting negative effects upon true witches and we must guard against added attacts by crazied christians who have seen or heard about this film. Let us all try to share the truth about our practices.
Blessings,
DragonKeeper
I'd like to say that I really enjoyed The Craft. Having seen the making of it, I was under the impression that this movie was "the most accurate portrayal of the Wicca religion", as the woman put it. Um, now having read comments, I am now under the impression that compared to reality it is a pile of crap. Don't get me wrong, I did love the movie, and sympathise with those real witches out there, if for any reason they were insulted by the movie. On another note, I am completely sick to death of young girls ape-ing the characters in the movie. I firmly believe that you shouldn't mess with what you don't understand, and that is why I don't practise. Not that I wouldn't, but as I am uneducated in this field, I am Afraid. Afraid of the unknown. Would LOVE to know more about this provocative practise. Any tips?

I had to watch this movie once in the theater and twice on video to
actually perceive my oen opinion of the movie itself. I am a
direct-from-Oz fan of Fairuza Balk and this, her first mainstream film, I beleive is NOT a good showcase for her talents and I encourage all who liked her in this to rent the amazing "Imaginary Crimes". I am 16 and have been a Witch since I was 12. There were very few elements of accuracy in this movie, it was a mess besically. I think this movie tries to make Wicca a passing trend, and not a lifelong religion, as it is for me. Teenage witches are coming out of the woodwork and it has not done much for me personally. Older Pagans sometimes think I am just one of those wannabe's and girls my age ask me why I "don't look like those girls in The Craft". Overall, Fairuza Balk was great, but the movie itself was very poorly researched.
OwlDream
I really liked the movie exept for the ending. I am not a witch. I have been interested in witchcraft for all my years. A long time ago my uncle was and still is a warlock. I've learned a lot from him and the movie only showed the outcome of things and not the work that went into it.
I cant explain how angry i saw that they made it look like a hoax with all the special effects.
I can tell you one thing i liked about the movie though....it's the fact that people will leave you alone if you tell them you're a witch. I haven't done it; but the things people believe these days is hilarious.HA HA HA.
Maybe one day people will realize that not all folklore is true. Hopefully they'll make another movie that will bring out the BASE of what witches are all about.
As you can see i like to speak my mind, but that's because I feel
strongly to this subject. One day they will all see that we are good, ordinary people,,,just like them(With a different religion/hobby)
Be true to thyself...

well, the craft was a lot better than older witchcraft pix (bell, book, and candle springs to mind) but it's still a bad portayal of a
functioning coven. great image of a non- functioning one, tho... and
NOBODY has that sort of power!
red queen
Gee, I think that it certainly had some good points but the bad out weighed the good by far. I think it lent fuel to the fire that we worship Satan. I think it also protrays Witchcraft not as a religion and a way of life but one of just spells and magic.. what can witchcraft do for me...type thing.
I would like to see a movie protray us, as we really are.. Doctors, lawyers, homemakers, mothers, fathers, every walk of life., the only difference being is our Spiritual path.. not different as a human being. well maybe a little different... perhaps more intuned with Oneness.
About the Craft well, I don't know if you guys know but some Wiccan
gave the Director of "The Craft" some spells and info. And for you
guys out there who didn't like the special effects well "HELLO IT'S
THE 90'S THEY DO SPECIAL EFFECTS ITS WHAT MAKES MOVIES
GOOD,DUH!!!!!!!!" and anyway if it wasn't for that movie I wouldn't be
a witch and neither would the othe part of my coven wouldn't be either
the movie is what enspired us so if it wasn't for that movie there
would be 5 less witchs!!!
------The Young one
I am going to say this, because it is true, the Craft actually got me more
into witch craft and Magick, but still, after I read all those comments adn
stuff..I realized what that movie was telling all those people out there. It was pretty much telling the wrong stuff about Wicca and giving people the
wrong idea. I actually thought it was hilarious when I saw Nancy practically wringing Sarah's neck!! It was a big joke adn I still think of it as "just a movie" but still, all those young people out there are going to try that stuff and get confused and kill themselves. BUH BYE!
sHiRLeY
I Thought The Craft was good but I know alot of it was inaccurate. It really got me interested in Wicca.
THE MADDHATTER
I think that the movie was really good because it gave everyone a
chance to see what witchcraft is about. I am tired of people calling
me a satan worshipper because of my religion. "The Craft" shows that
this type of lifestyle is not for everybody-- if you do harm to
someone or get into the craft for the wrong reasons, you will pay for
it. Nancy ended up going crazy because she took the power into
herself for her own personal gain. She also killed Chris Hooker
because of the rumors he spread about her. This is not what the craft
is about--we are not trying to make everyone pay for things they have
done; (karma will get them) all we are trying to do is make this world
better in the future. We have taken so much from Mother Earth, now it
is our turn to give something back.
Meredith
The Craft, I thought was mildly entertaining and I think quite
provocative since it successfully brought a taboo topic into mainstream
America. Was it accurate in it's depiction of Wicca? No. Do we all
live our lives this way? Hopefully not. But what it did do was cause a
kernel of thought...or a seedling question to be raised in the
consciousness of millions of people who saw that movie. Now it's true
that some fundamental Christian organization may use the film as ammo
for their diatribes...well, they most likely will do this regardless of
the movie anyway. But the movie did some other positives too...no ugly
hags riding on brooms in the moonlight...hateful rituals with blood
sacrifice...comparisons to Satanism...all were not present. HOORAY!
The flick was entertainment, not a documentary. And although I wouldn't
include it in my reference library, I would say that it definately got a
reaction from the pagan community...SO, maybe another question we might
ask ourselves is how do we educate our pagan children from the time they
are mere babes to honor the planet and each other? Children learn and
are influenced most by family and then later by their peers...got to
start somewhere! I want to know what people thought of "Powder"? Now,
there's a movie I just loved...and wished we could al live.
Chris
Well, I haven't seen the movie yet, but I probably will someday.. I must
admit, I'm move of a Shiavite than a Pagan, but what I was thinking
about all this commentary is that its all well and good, but none of it
reaches the mainstream media, only those that are already interested in
the craft! I think we should all get off our apathetic butts and DO
SOMETHING about all this! At the very least, we should start making
Quicktime Witchcraft and Warlock movies that tell stories the way WE
want them told.. I hope my words can inspire yall to get out the
message.. This Internet thing is great and all, and I think this site is
really rad, but action is needed.. The things that are coming in this
real world don't look very pretty. Terrence Mckenna has just announced
that moving the Eschaton date up to March 20?, 1999 makes it fit a whole
lot better.. If ya wanna know what the result of apathy is, go check out
this website:

and click the up arrow to goto the main page.. Start out with the last
of the messages, and then go read from the very beginning.. The scary
thing to ME about all this stuff iz that it's very similar to what
Nostradomus was saying would come. Not to mention that all the Quantum
Mechanists are speaking fervently about causality violation (Time
travel).. This world grows weirder and weirder.. Please e-mail me if
anyone wants to form up a group of creative people to answer movies like
"The Craft." We need to get started before those creebly Maroon Darth
Vaderish Nazi bug-eyed Watcher Greys win the war! I know this soundz
weird, even to yall, but if you are open minded, you'll hear the truth
in these words. I am a heckuva cyber-investigative journalist, and never
take things from a small variety of sources.. If anything I've said
makes you curious, I would like to speak with you, and I don't want some
