What did you think of the movie The Craft?
I've been wiccian for four years, when this movie came out it made my
life even harder. The movie has no actual facts and in my Christian
dominated town it made us out to be freaks, that where black all the
time, and do things to people against their free will. The movie also
caused every teen aged girl to think that witch craft is a fad not a way
of life. May the Goddesses watch over you.
Starr
I thought it was a great movie, one of my favs. I don't see what all the
bitching is about? I'm Wiccan and i loved the movie; it didn't make me
angry, if anything it got me more execited about praying. I thought the
girls where hot as hell, especially nancy! (any girl who looks like fairulza
balk give me some mail at TypeNeg1@AOL)
So it was a little fake, people should still be happy at least they made a
semiaccurate movie on our religion!!!!!!!
\{^^^^^^}/
Ok, first off... As prementioned, there is no Divine Spirit named Manno, BUT of course many Wiccans do and reserve their right to create their own names for the ones in which they believe in. Therefore their Manno is, in a sense, similar to our Akasha, and I suppose should be respected in that way.
Second... Also prementioned, there area few kids at my school who have taken an interst "Scientificly" in Paganism and Witchcraft, but they are getting (if I may assume) TOO deep into it without better knowledge of it to know what NOT to mess with.
And third, I haven't yet to see where you can fly.. But it could happen...
Anyways, one more thing though.. According to the producers, when they were invoking the spirit, the wind that suddenly came arround.. WAS real!!!
Anyways, Merry Meet and Blessed be to all of you...

Hello,
I thought the movie was okay, It was entertaining and had a few
realistic moments but altogether it blew the whole witch thing out of
proportion. I'm a wiccan but I've only been one around a year and I
don't now much about it yet.
Odin
The Craft-this movie is what turned me to Wicca. After seeing it I was
fascinated and wanted to learn more.
dorothy
I had positive and negative feelings about it.
First, it was a good movie, effect and story-wise. It is as entertaining as any other fiction movie, such as Dragonheart. Also, it brings to light the existance of Wicca, and that it is NOT Devil Worship. What I did not like was that they make Wicca look evil and malevolant, and shows the Three Fold Law to be almost nonexistant. One thing I hated the most about it (this will be disagreed with I KNOW) is that it got a lot of people into Wicca...but for the wrong reason.
People who see the movie will want to become Wiccan for the POWER associated with magic, and/or the freedom granted of religion, as opposed to what the religion consists of, belief-wise(which, strangely, wasn't even in the movie).
abraxas@writeme.com
I thought " The Craft" was a great movie and I agree with West on the
comments she made. I think that people shouldn't be afrad to admitt to
others that they are witches. Sure they might do stuff for a while, but
who cares. The only one you should be concerned about is your-self.
Blessed be,
Kiss
In my oppinion, the craft was a very good FICTICIOUS movie. It did cover
some of our beleifs but I beleive it still portrays us in a negative light.
The movie gave people unrealistic ideas of what the real craft is about.
Thanks for giving me the oppertunity to voice my oppinion.

I was very excited when I saw the previews for the Craft. I thought finally a true portrayal of the Craft. My very christian husband (divorced now) took me. I was appalled by this movie. So little of it was true. This movie made witches look like evil self-centered persons only interested in what magic can do for them.
My husband was shocked and tried to forbid me to practice anymore. I realize it was Hollywoods portrayal of Wicca and it had to be worth watching but I really felt it set us back and hurt us as witches. My brother-in -law kept asking me if I knew the God they mentioned in the movie and if I could change my hair color at will.
I was very displeased with this movie.
Silver
I have seen "the Craft" 63 times and counting. I love the movie and when
I first saw it I was already interested in wicca. I studied it and
memorized the spells in it, although I never tried any. I have become
even more interested and am seeing now how far from the truth the movie
is. I think, however, that it was a very fair depiction of witches
compared to almost all previous movies. I also think that it pushed me
into the craft, which I am grateful for. I think that the part where
they go to church is sort of realistic. I still go to church and worship
the christian god, however, I also realize an extremely deep kinship with
the air and I occasionaly use wiccan magic, althoguh none that invoke
wiccan gods.

I being a teenager enjoyed the movie for it's entertainment value. I am scared
however because i see people in my school using "The Craft" as their personal
guide to witchcraft.
Silver
You asked for comments on the craft?
Well I consider mysefl to be a witch, i have studied the craft for 3
years now (although I haven't tried anything) and found a good moral
lesson in the movie but little truth. The message of the three fold
rule is good, and how if used with evil intent magic can be very
dangerous, although if used with a positive intent it can be a wonderful
thing. However i saw no mention of the Goddess any where in the
movie...from my readings and own personal searching i have found
witchcraft to be at LEAST half goddess orientated. That is my ownly real
problem with the movie, as i said i loved the message behind it and the
interest it sparked in teens everywhere.

ALright, I have to put in my thoughts. First of all, you Wiccans out
there, you're full of crap. Wicca is not a real witchcraft religion. It
only wishes it could be. And I know this because I am Pagan. Full Pagan.
Been for 7 years, and I'm so sick of Wiccans getting all upset about
shit. You don't put rules on magick. That's wrong, and it's impossible.
And for those of you who think that Sara did nothing wrong, that she was
an innocent by-stander, get a grip. If there were such a thing as black
magick, love spells would be the blackest of all. So please, Wiccans,
don't talk, nobody likes to hear your pathetic whining about all the
injustices against you. My sisters were burned in the witch-hunts. Stop
your crying, it makes you look weak and childish, though we Pagans know
the true depth of your stupidity.
-BANSHEE
I enjoyed the movie for entertainment value, and it got me interested in
witchcraft. Now, I really want to learn. It did put kind of a negative
image out about wicca, though. When I told my friends at school about
wicca, they thought (some of them still do) that it was evil and
satanic, because of The Craft. I've had a really hard time explaining
to them that Wicca and Satanism are totally different. (I can't blame
that completely on the movie--but it sure didn't help me any.)
It was a good movie, and I plan to watch it several more times...but it
was JUST a movie.
Aislinn
Well while I think it did an alfull job of repersenting Wicca Its also
what got me started on the path of the Goddess. Me & my friends were
interested in Wicca so we rented & I chose the path of the Goddess while
my other to friends chose the sterotypical, dressin black, santinist
potral. I think they should have done a little more thinking on there
part. Beacuse its sending bad messages to people.
Zia Riley
I'm 15 and learning to be a witch, a process which I know will never be
complete. I have felt drawn towards this path for as long as I can
remember and have always had the same belief system, since even before I
found out it was almost exactly the same as the wiccan belief system.
Whilst noticing the movie's inaccuracies I enjoyed the film and it's
special effects - I found it entertaining and well acted. However I do
find it really worrying that people (especially my age) are trying to
imitate the main characters. There's this group of girls in my school
who dress and act like the main characters, and threaten to put bad
spells on their enemies/ teachers etc. I asked them who their god was
and they replied with a string of quotes from the movie (very sad!). I
just hope that they don't cast any spells that do work because that
would probebly be dangerous and end up harming someone.
It was a good movie (with a very cool soundtrack!) but it is a pity that
it has made some people see Wicca as a fashion statement, instead of
what it actually is- a religion.
Blessed be,
Andromeda
I thought that the movie was very entertaining.Even though You could neveer
have all that power and they weren't portraying wicca truly that may not just
be hollywood.I mean after all, Wicca varys from place to place and the deities
take on diffrent sexes and names that dosen't make the movie bad and it may
have made some ex-future witch haters realize that we don't worship their
"Satan" and we arn't a bunch of cackling hags. There were a few very true thing
in it though!Calling the cornors(casting the circle),the butter flies(animals
somtimes do grace wiccians with their presence during dedication), and the
rule of three.
~Jon
Okay, let me say this. Most of you people here are right, It has made the
craft a "trendy" thing with young girls trying to have powers, but there
are (I believe) some people (including myself) who have been enlightened
to learn more about the religion. However, I am not like ever other teen
out there. I have been questioning my beliefs for years now and have
deeply researching all religions for quite a while. The Craft has
personally opened my mind up to Wicca and after researching it, I truly
believe that it is the religion for me. Not because I want to do spells
to be cool or something like that, but rather because of how amazingly
similar my beliefs are with Wiccan beliefs. If there wasn't any magickal
parts to it, I would still be a witch. Actually, I am very scared of what
will happen to my life If I ever revealed that I am a witch. Most
teenagers think that they are cool and are better than others, and those
are the ones that want to be witch just for kicks. "The Craft" has changed
my life, but I am not going to say that for anyone else. If it has
changed atleast one life permanently, would you say the movie was worth
making? Email me at vkher@msms.doe.k12.ms.us if you have any advice,
questions, or comments.

The movie was good, because as a movie, it was made well,,,,,as for everything
about witchcraft, I didn't think there was anything wrong with it,,,it wasn't
supposed to be about Wicca, and the movie did have many parts that were
true,,,it showed truth mixed with fiction, and they did it well,,,,it had
3fold, the fact about how the intention of the witch made magic good or bad,
etc,,,,,and for the parts that weren't true, it was just for fun,,,,,there are
so many people who want to be witches, and think that by dressing that way,
they'll look like witches, but we all know that's bs,,,,they know in thir
hearts that they're not fooling anybody,,,,everybody wants quick answers, and
just let them be that way,,,they'll probably never be able to even do a spell,
because they just think that if they dress that way and say some witchy words
it will work,,,,we know what was truth and fantasy, hopefully most of the
other people who watched it did, too,,,and for those who don't know, they'll
find out later in life,,,and so many people I know have asked me about
becoming a witch, and I tell them the truth, and about what was true in the
movie, etc,,,, so the movie was good!!

I appreciate the movie for its entertainment value; I enjoyed the sets and especially "Sarah's" house. BUT, I think that it has drawn in impressionable teenagers towards false witchcraft and paganism. There are many teenagers, especially girls with some serious problems, at my high school who were first drawn to paganism by the "Craft" and now call themselves witches. They wear nothing but black, say that they will throw a hex on you, and lack any knowledge of the Goddess whatsoever. As far as I know, there is no mention of a god named Manno. Besides, there was never any mention of polytheism or the belief in "all gods being one." It makes witches look like vampy, gothic, satan worshippers. The only truths were the Threefold Law, the calling of corners, and a few others. I think the movie throws witches back a couple hundred years and makes us look darker than ever, which we all know is true. It makes me sad to think that people can be so naive, and so narrowminded, but it is true, which is why more than ever, witchcraft must appear to be the positive way of life that it is. People have to learn that witchcraft is only part magick and all spirit.

The Craft: very nice looking. Fairuza Balk was nuts. Don't you wish it was that easy? It entertained me, but I wouldn't take it too seriously. It didn't offend like, oh say, "The Believers." -- MeccaStar@aol.com
I loved "The Craft" It was an excellent way to show how witchcraft and be useful, but if treated the wrong way and be bad. It tells you to be careful on what you do. I was very exciting and intrueging too. -- Kitty4256@aol.com
I really enjoyed the movie and found it very imformative concerning magic and how powers should not be abused. Michelle
The movie was the bomb. It shows that any one can become a wicca. -- patdar@northernnet.com
This movie only made me get more curious about the practice. I enjoyed it alot, and actually own the movie. Some things were quite bizarre and out of
the ordinary, but I gave it 2 index fingers up...
Hey!!! I loved that movie. I have also read that people think it is poorly related to Wiccan Magic, but I am just wondering did they ever state in the movie that it would display Wiccan Magic? From what I saw, it hasn't. But according to my sources, and I may be wrong, there is other witchcraft out there, and I guess this movie was just trying to include all of them. I agree with you that it should be specific and realistic, but meanwhile, Witchcraft is just like Vampires, everyone has their own version, such as the old "Garlic Method" which some say it doesn't even work. Another example that shows the movie wasn't horrible was because everyone says they heard that if a witch leaves the Covenant, they must be killed, so we cannot truely judge the movie with negative thoughts. We are all entitled to our own opinion, so I am stating mine. And everyone is saying how witches aren't Satanic, I believe they aren't, but I believe what that shopkeeper said, and I quote, "You must invoke the spirit. But it made Nancy Crazy. She takes it to a Dark Place." I'm sure that's true too, cause look at our world today, people take things that are made to be good but are then changed into items of "evil" or bad. Nancy did what she wanted, and she invoked Manon and used his power for evil, Sarah supposedly used it for good, but then ended up taking pleasure in her revenge. It's the Human race, and we all do things we shouldn't, or fabricate things into what they truely aren't. But anyhow, that movie was the best. :)

I really liked the movie not because it delt with Witchcraft but because it was entertaining. I think it has stirred a lot of interest in the Craft among younger people, and that can be both good or bad. Instead of presenting a completely false image (like the hag who stews bats wings) as most movies have in the past, it blended truth with fiction and imagination which leaves a lot of the viewers with a distorted view and an uncertainty about magic's boundaries. Besides stirring interest, I think the movie brought a lot of wiccan's together (in discussion, at least). Also, a lot of those confused youths who see the movie go out and start researching witchcraft and discover the truth about it.. and from there decide whether it's for them or not.. so I feel the movie (distorted though it was) has also helped bring the truth to people.
Just my two cents. =)
Blessed Be,
I thought the movie was good in content and in showing how witches are able to practice today. I know people who, when they found out I was a witch, thought of broomsticks and old witch fables. But after they saw the movie, they realized that Wicca is a religion. I also can agree on how they showed the girls when they atteneded church, and how they were unable to tell their parents becuase my parents don't know that I am a witch and I am forced to go to sunday school. BUt I think the movie showed a good overview of some aspects in Wicca.
I thought the movie was very interesting!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It taught me
that magic can be very dangerous, but also be very interesting at the
same time. -- jmhoos@northernnet.com
In my opinion The craft was another teen gone wrong movie....vehicle witchcraft. Yes it does open up discussion, and first comments from my mouth are Ethics, not what these kids has had much dealing with. Its all in the upbringing, if yoou havent shown them honor duty ethics and the cause and effect of ones actions than you get the weaaak willed and
gothically lost..... The character of Sarah is to be perceived as your average/ victim but good person. The technical advisor had a hard task to advise but I empathasize that she was not effective in the way the
hollywood types chose to cut scenes.
As members of the craft community our job is walking a fine line, from explaination to understanding. debunking or jetisonning that which is not relevant and replacing it with a clear understantding that as we all
know hollywood is ever happy to sensationalize a lesserknown subject that to document it.... thats their idea of entertainment......... I have to admit i wouldnt normally spend 6.75 on a documentary
id wait til it was on pbs........ Yeah like we'll see that happen.........

I am not a witch, but I am an avid learner. I have been fascinated with the occult and it's psychological ramifications forever. I am not religious...at least not in the Christian sense...and I do seem to have some sort of extra-sensory perception about certain things.
Now, with my validation for my opinion out of the way, I would have to say that the craft was entertaining. I would also have to say that is just a movie. I am a movie enthusiast and have seen more destructive depictions of witches and spirits in plenty of other movies. BUT, i understand that they are just movies. I can understand people being miffed because their beliefs were comodisized, but that doesn't mean that the aim was to depict the true state of those beliefs.
Anyways, that is that....good flick, mildly entertaining....but I would rather watch X-files.... :)
My position on films like 'The Craft' is this:
I enjoy them for their fantasy value; all of us who are truly in The Craft, are aware of the factual benefits we derive. However, there is a fantasy aspect to our Craft that is also enjoyable (such as having super-duper powers). Films like 'The Craft' help indulge our fantasies, which is good.
On the other hand, the mundane public seems to have trouble being able to separate the facts from the fantasy, so some aspects of this film do appear to give us a bad rep.
I choose to look on the positive side though; I enjoyed the film and plan on watching it several more times in years to come.
There were alot of wonderful special effects during the movie, but at
one scene, where Lora is sitting in the shower with her hair falling
out, Rochelle standing by a mirror and looks up, and then a second
later, her reflection follows her movements. Any input on this? Could
this be a foreshadowing of the scene where she and Bonnie see themselves
in Sarah's hallway mirror as victims of the threefold-law? Fairuza
reminds me so much of my friend Brandis it's almost funny. I also
thought she and Robin Tunney (Sarah)were the best of the main actresses.
Chris's character was non-believable most of the time, and I think that
was rude of the movie-makers to kill him off. He does look like an
anteater...But overall, as many have said before me, the portrayal was
terrible. Also, at one part, when they are doing the initiation, they
get the "rush upon my blade..." part right, along with hailing the
corners...from what I saw. Also, I don't fully understand the beach full
of dead sharks after Nancy walks on the water (ha ha ha, nice touch,
guys!) Oh well, this is just my opinion. I am only a beginning witch,
and I am happy in this. So I wish all of you pleasant dreams, and a
sorry for babbling quotient as well!!!
I thought the movie was good in the sense that it was only a movie, but i think that it also showed that magic is nothing to mess around with unless you know what you are doing. but i enjoyed watching it anyways
To probably everyone's surprise, I really liked The Craft. It is the closest movie to Wicca as it comes. However, that's not to say that all aspects of the movie are serious. The "glamour" magic and the hexes are completely bogus and they do not elaborate enough on real Wicca. I have been studying as a "child of the craft" for nearly a year now and I am smart enough to know that this movie isn't about real witchcraft. But, it is humorous watching the
producers try, and it is worth a Friday night rental.
I thought the movie brought the audiences attention to what witch craft is all about. It shows the goodness the religion can bring, but is also portrayed the other side, the darkside. It showed how true witch craft is a balance of good, and eveil. Excellent movie, it has awakened me to look deeper into this belief.
I thought this film was excellent!,it shows you how dangerous magic can be if it is not used correctly. It also showed that magic is not to be used to harm others as it can go very wrong.
I though the craft was a great movie, but they should have had some sort of disclamer saying that the images displayed were fiction, because I have friends who saw the movie and now think that witchcraft is some sort of bad thing. I wish that just once a movie would portray witches for what we really are.
It was a very interesting movie. I liked the image of witches it portrays, it is closer than anything else I've seen. Still, as with any motion picture, it has to be taken with a proverbial grain of salt and isn't perfect. After all is said and done, I like it for what it is- a movie.
