What did you think of the movie The Craft?
I have to say that ever since last school year, evryone in my school
seems to be doin' witch craft. You see over the summer I decided to take
up witch craft, & me being the dumass that I am, I brang my one book
"Teen Witch" to school and a friend of mine saw it & decided that wicca
was for her, but then, she went around telling EVERYONE, & now it's one
of the BIGGEST fads in school. I just have to say that the movie the
craft, while entertaining, does misinform the public. ALOT of people I
know come up to me & ask things like "Can you change my hair color?" or
"Can you put a spell on so& so?" and it's just soooooooooo rediculus. I'd
like to see a movie where they tell the truth, & DON'T have the special
effects.

Okay, I know everyone out there is really mad that this movie supposedly portrayed us wrongly, but lets look at it here for a second. Was the movie full of falsehoods pertaining to the powers and or intents that witches have? God yes, but did you ever notice that people don't scream bloody murder when luke skywalker takes his land cruiser across the plains of naboo? It's a MOVIE people, most movies are fictitious. If it had been a movie simply about four girls sitting around lighting candles and chanting, it wouldn't have drawn any money in. Would I have seen it itf that was all it was about? Sure, and probably 200,000 other witches, but that is not enough to cover even the budget for the film. Hollywood is based on lies. Even movies based on true stories are embelished beyond belief....sorry but it's true. It was a movie, plain and simple. Deal with it. Point number two. The movie did not portray witches as "Black wearing devil worshipers", the only girl who wore black was Fairuza Balk's character Nancy. And for those of you who don't know, she wore black for a specific reason (actually two reasons). Reason one, the color of the girls clothing represented their elemental alignments. Fairuza's character was restricted to wearing only black and red throughout the shoot because of that fact. Just like the girl who played sarah.....notice alot of brown in her wardrobe? And two, Fairuza wears that type of clothing in real life (BTW I believe she is a practicing wiccan, she owns Pan Pipes, an occult/new age shop). Yes people, witches can wear black I know I do, not a day goes by that I don't spike up my hair and strap my wonderful black leather pants on. Do we give witches a bad light? Maybe, maybe not. But I am into free will personally. So finally people, it's just a movie...lighten up and live a little....and everyonce in a while, strap on some tight vinyl pants or a skirt....you'll feel real sexy! ^_-

Well...it started with a fairly decent premise, but downhill all the way
turned out to be what it was all about. Very little factual, boring,
everyday items about real Witches that would not tittilate anyone in the
least---and of course oodles of stereotypes and myths to grab the general
public's attention. I found it gratuitous, insulting and just what the
fundies need to perpetuate all the nasty, negative images Positive Witches
have to fight every day anyway. Rented the video, did not go to the movies
to see it. My fellow coveners went without me. We had some dissention in
the coven over this movie.

I just recently saw the movie, "The Craft".....No in my minds eye i see
it as a Vulgar excuse for Magick....These four girls showed nothing of a
true wiccan, Nancy showed hated, Sarah showed Selfishness and Also she
misled everyone trying to make them think she was a "GOOD" witch when
really she had Hatred in her, Bonnie and Racheal Now those two just
seemed to be followers to me, The really had no part in the movie except
to show that they "FOLLOWED" nancy and started being what i like to call
"EVIL"........Anyway thats movie was enjoyable but it was also a
Disgrace to the Wiccan Communities.
Jason
I think that the movie "The Craft" was O.k. . I think it gave a people who
don't know that much about wicca a good lesson on what its about but they did
go a little far with the flying, pushing people out of windows , and the
dreams. The three fold was pretty true so I give it 3 pentagon stars.

Hello. I have been practicing all my life. I Thought the movie was an unrealistic portrail of powers I was born with. Small things were correct in their portrial, but never have I been able to float mid air or call upon a storm. With my years of hard work I have been able to light canles or move pencils across a room, but only with the most intense concentration. I havn't told anyone of these abilities but my sisters, who for some reason share my powers. There is no question that yoyu doubt me, probably because your own fears, uncertianties and criticism , which blocks your view. If you don't belive, try this;cjhant your love's name over and over tonight in deep meditation, I promise you he will be in your dreams.

I thought this movie was ok. I watched it with my best friend and he liked it. It wasnt the most accurate of all movies. It was a bit hollywood-ized. I thought it gave a good message though, if you missuse your power it will affect you in a negative way. I dont reccomend this to my fellow teens to watch to learn about witchcraft. I suggest you read some before you watch the Craft.
I do, however, definately recomend Practical Magic (both book and movie) but that's a different story.

The film exploited witchcraft and made it attractive to people who wouldn't
normally consider souch things. The danger lies within the teen aged
community where there are girls experimenting wiht things the movie made seem
simple and easy. These people aren't researching or reading anything before
they try to preform rites and spells and I am afraid of what will become of
them. I am a teenager myself and I saw the film as another stereotype that I
have to cleanse myself of. I just recently watched the movie and was appaled
by its inaccuracey. I have girls in school come and ask me if I am a witch and
if I am did I become one because af that movie.... I became a witch because a
family member saw something in me and decided to teach me Wicca. I love and
trust my religion, but these girls who are now practicing magick because its
another cool thing to do are going to find themselves in a lot of trouble
eventually and I am afraid of the outcome.
Nydia
Okay, so I thought it was hilarious. I saw it on video with one of my guy friends who just wanted to see a catfight. I also wanted to find out why everybody was telling me I looked like the bad one. I don't see the resemblance, but oh well. The only thing that really bothered me about it was that after the movie came out I was accosted by a million little freshman girls (it came out my senior year in high school) who wanted to be witches. Even though I was still pretty much in the broom closet, they came to me because they knew I was a history/archeology/religion freak. This was a lot like when I came out about being bisexual and all of the teeny boppers decided they were too. (I had one chick going around claiming to be my girlfriend for months.) I just don't like it when something that I do becomes trendy all of a sudden, and that was one of the main results of The Craft.
Thanks for reading!

I Have to admit I liked this movie. But it did have a lot of misleading
things in it like the glamour scene(come on get real). The one thing
that I saw in the movie that seemed to be true was the threefold.
I am a wiccan and have been one for a long time. The only thing this
movie did is make non-believers think that all witches are evil.
I told my sister last month that I am a wiccan and her first response
was "So you do evil spells and chant to the devil" She thought what she saw in the movie was a real portrayal the witchcraft. I still like the
movie but I can't believe a wiccan helped out. I guess lots of money
impair you thinking, right? I think not!
Blessed be,
Christy
I would just like to say that I completely understand everyone's views
on the subject, but I think you're taking this teen witches thing a
little too far. I thought The Craft portrayed the evil side of
witchcraft, but lets face it, there is an evil side out there. And many
people (not only gullible teenagers) practice evil. I'm 16, and I am
still learning Wicca. I'm in it to better myself and all life, but I'm
still just learning. I read all the books, read the Internet, and talk
around to people at the local occult stores. I just wanted to say: Sure,
the movie The Craft my have started a huge fad for some teenagers, but
the fad will die down and in a few years things will be back to normal.
The teens/people that don't truly believe and are just in it for spells
and revenge, probably wont get anywhere (wont hurt anyone or accomplish
many spells). The true people with witchcraft in their heart will be
around and practicing long after The Craft is just a dusty, old movie,
on the back shelves of the video store.
Love and Blessings,
Courtney
I personally didn't like the movie "The Craft". So many people already
think that anyone who practices withcraft is evil and Satanic and the
girls in the movie just helped to reinforce that belief. I am 22 now and
have been a practicing Wiccan since the age of 13 and even I knew then
about the threefold law. The movie offended me and I think that if
people are going to be doing movies about something so controversial,
then they should have at least gotten their facts straight. I love my
religion and plan to raise my daughter as a Wiccan (that is until she
can decide for herself) and I don't think Hollywood movie makers need to
be adding fuel to the fire of closed minds.
Blessed be,
Adrienne
As a teenage boy, i loved the movie. As a thinking adult (depends on how
you define adult i guess), i still loved the movie. I only had a problem
with one detail, the fact that three girls ganged up on one, i would
have figured that the extra two would have sat it out. But, the movie
did get one or two messages accross, witches aren't evil, and more
importantly, power can corrupt anyone. I still loved the movie.

I have been practicing Wicca for about 6 1/2 yrs now. And when I saw the =
movie the craft, I thought it was completly further from the truth it
only made socity see us in a negitive matter all over again. It only
added to the negitivity that has been haunting us for years. I belive
that all movies like this should either stop being watched or atleast
show some truth. Perhaps the authors of the movie should research a
little more before they present as movie as this, or atleast show both
sides of the matter.
Moongazer
The Craft was a very entertaining MOVIE. I don't recall anyone in the movie
ever stating they were practicing Wiccan, though. The witch on the set may
have been Wiccan, but that is never stated in the film.
GiorgosI@aol.com
Sure the movie was inaccurate, but it got my curiosity flowing again. It
made me want to learn more about witchcraft. I had already studied on it
earlier but lost some interest. When I saw the movie I thought I would
start practicing again. So although it wasn't all true it was, atleast,
entertaining.

I really think that it`s a great idea to show what we can do..but all
the spell is fause but the only real thing is the threefold
Natacha
I found the movie fasinating. It mixed true Witch craft and Wicca
together, but in some parts, very glamorized. Other than that,It was great and
it taught that even with the most power, you can still be weak.~LHS~ screen

The craft is a movie about teenagers with problems they feel they don't
belong anywhere so they look at witch craft as a means of gaining acceptance.
In this movie they have 4 girls. One who is power hungry , two that seem to
be the type to follow anyone, and one who supposively had a gift did not know
how to use it and then got used by the others because of it. The only person
who seemed to be most accurately portrayed as close to true wiccan ways was
the shop keeper she had the only really believable aspect. ( sorry if there
are any spelling errors)

I feel "The Craft" was a horrible film, a movie, thats all it was a movie! Hollwood almost never portrays anything with accuracy, so why would Wicca be any different. The film it self was just horribe with bad acting, bad actors, and just a plain stupid plot line! The only good thing I can say about the film was the Shop Keeper. The Shop Keeper was the only character that even came close to what Wicca really is. It really scares me that alot of young boys and girls saw this movie and wanted to be involved in Wicca after seeing the film. Ive come in contact with a few younger craft seekers wanting to know if I had a spell to make someone love them, or make them look like a model? Television and Film people really ought to be more responsible!

I personally felt that "The Craft" was just another teen exploitation
flick that represents the Hollywood proclivity for making a buck off of
the latest rage/fad/whatever. I can and will admit to becoming
extremely pissed-off at what I saw in the movie---got an Irish temper,
doncha know! Besides, even if I wasn't Wiccan, this movie was full of
the same old stereotypes of boy-crazy, looks-fixated, unable to deal
with anything rationally teen-age girls. That seems just as important
for me to consider when debating the merits of this movie for it affects
all of humanity, irregardless of what religion we may adhere to.
I worked in the top New Age bookstore in Ft. Lauderdale right after it
came out on cable and the number of panicked teens calling up asking how
to reverse the "hex/curse" put upon them by another teen who had also
seen the movie was both huge and pathetic. There are literally hundreds
of reasons to pan this movie and to recommend against anyone with an
ounce of intelligence, pagan or not, watching it. Yes, I didn't like
it, as you can tell. However, no matter how distasteful this movie is,
I shall always support the right of others to the free speech of
expressing their creativity.

I think the movie was good. Of course it's going to have some
supernatural untrue things in it, but that's what makes it entertaining,
right? As for the comments about it displaying witches as "gothic, and
only wearing black" that is true, but you fail to realize the shopkeeper
was always in white. If your going to look for such trivial things, that
is. It was very entertaining and a fun movie to watch. :)
Anne
As a film it was excellent. I thought that the special effects were great.
It actually inspired me to find out more about witchcraft.
After I found out about Wicca I realised how inaccurate the film was (more
so at the end then the beginning).
I still watch the film quite often (in fact it's one of my favourites) but
only for entertainment. I don't worry about the fact that it isn't all the
truth because what else can you expect from Hollywood!
Tulista@microsoft.com
I truely enjoyed the movie for its entertainment value, it was one of the things that continued to draw me towards Witchcraft. I appreciate its attempt to teach the moral lesson of the Threefold Law, and the fact that it portrayed the two heroes of the movie as truely positive figures--one, a Witch just learning what Witchcraft really was, and the other (the owner of the shop) a very possitive, if a bit fantastic, portrayal of what a Witch is (minus the accent and other theatrical effects, of course...)
However, I didn't like the danger that it has apparently presented, that is, the danger that people who watched it have apparently missed out on the entire piont of the movie, the Threefold Law. Young kids who don't know a thing about Witchcraft or the God and Goddess or what magic really is were drawn to the movie, and from there into the dangerous practice of "playing with magic." Thats not at all good, and while maybe it wasn't the intent of the movie for this to happen, it has...
If more people payed attention to the movie instead of that neet little
scene where they invoke the Spirit on the beach, I think it wouldn't be
half as harmful a movie as what it is turning out to be.

I think though a fictitious movie, a great deal of research was put into
it. I do not however think it gave witches a bad name. It just showed
what could happen. They showed the positive side and the negative side
of the issue. And I liked the movie.
Djrianna
I liked "The Craft" as a movie. But it did portray witches in a bad light.
And I know people who have read up on the Craft because of the movie. And
they think that being like Nancy or another stereo-typical figure of a witch
is the only way to go. They try and use witchcraft as a plow to scare people,
which deserves a knock in the head from karma in and of itself. And because
of this movie, when I told my mom that I wanted to become a witch, she thought
that I was going to go out and sacrifice animals and what not. But people are
all talking about Nancy and how she makes us look bad. But most of us are not
like Nancy or even the shop-keeper. We're all normal people, like Christians,
Jews, or Hindus. People just aren't well educated in the Craft so they don't
understand that we're not all crazy like Nancy and we don't all totally absorb
our lives in it. Granted, my religion is a HUGE part of my life, as it should
be. But I also have a family and a house and problems just like everyone
else. This movie is exactly what it is. A MOVIE! Everyone (including us)
has to stop taking it so seriously.
TarotStar
I've been studying Wicca for over ten years now and all the movie dis was make
me laugh. I couldn't help but think "What comes next?" If this is how
Hollywood wishes to portray the Witch, so be it. It's a heck of a lot better
than what they've done in the past. I don't find it offensive. It's just a
sorry attempt to make a buck on something they know nothing about.
BrWolfStar@aol.com
I thought that The Craft was alright when I started to watch it. Then they started to exaggerate The Craft. They did portray it as most teenagers think it is like, but I found it rather insulting. I meet with a Pagan Moot to learn more, and had been very interested in Wicca for the previous 2 years. I'm now 16 (not initiated) and know several girls at school who think that I worship the devil and practice black magick, but this only occurred to them after they had seen the movie.
I would like to hear from any other teenagers with a similar opinion or
interest in Wicca.
