Tell me your opinion on the TV Show Sabrina: The Teenage Witch

I think Sabrina is a cute show, although it doesn't have much real facts about us. It is one of my favorite shows, it doesn't make us seem like wicked people. Even though everyone at school is always bugging me they will usually ask me to: float in midair, to make the teachers nice, and to fly.

Reality is pretty much far away in the show,it still is a great show.

I doin't see how anyone could see Sabrina as a wiccan. It is a make believe show on telivion. why can't people use there imaginations and wahct TV.

Merry meet! Its a really good show, just totally unrealistic. People do often get the wrong impression, but since most don't believe in Wicca or other witchcraft it doesn't matter much. It isn't hurting our image. It helps actually. Makes us all look like good guys, that are normal, not freaks.

I have watched it a couple of times, it does not offend me. I would say = that at least it does not show us as evil, green faced, and ugla. Its = purpose was not to educate but merely to entertain, so therefore that is = exactly what it does. I know that its a very popular show and see no = real harm in it at all. I wish however, there were true educational = shows about who we are from the inside out.

Personally, for me Sabrina is a TV show that has nothing to do with reality. I enjoy watching it. I'm neither a Wiccan nor do I go to church every chance I get. As for people who think it should be as realistic as a possible, consider this;

First of all, it is a TV show for a younger audience. There is such a thing as Standards in Broadcasting, what that means is it has to use a certain type of format in order to qualify for its ratings.

Second of all, the TV business is about reaching as broad as audience as possible, and is not select to a few individuals (despite what critics think). Most of the TV viewing audience are moderates with mostly Judeo - Christain beliefs systems, whatever sect they may be from. In reaching a broader audience, I'm only using capitals to stress importance, YOU CAN NOT INSULT MANY PEOPLE BY SHOWING A PARTICULAR VIEWPOINT. If the show were to promote a particular type of spirituality, for example, then too many people would be insulted. It would cause a controversy and more than likely be taken off of the air.

Of course, there are some few exceptions to this rule, such as the show Married With Children.

Also, if a person feels that it is not realistic and insulting, try this; first write your own TV show based on how you feel it should be. Then, try to sell it to Hollywood.

Merry Meet!
I think that this show puts a comedic perspective on witchcraft. I also like it because she is a teenage witch and we don't get alot of recrenation and when we do most people think that we are wannabe's and bad. That is so WRONG! Well thats about it.

Merry Part!

I'm well a beginer yet it still bothers me when i see shows and movies like Sabrina The Teenage Witch. I guess it bothers me because these shows that are on T.V have practicaly nothing to do with being a witch. I mean we don't have portles going onto a different relm in our linen closet, we don't run around zapping people with our fingers and we don't have talking cats and " Quiz Masters ". I can certinaly say we don't fly around on vacume cleaners eather. I just think it's funny to thing this is how some people portray witches. I would watch Sabrina The Teenage Witch, I don't think it's a bad show or anything but if they wanna do a show about " Witches " get your facts straight.

I feel that Sabrina the teenage witch turns the thought of being a witch into a complete joke. The cheap sound effects that occur when she casts a spell, as well as the cheap visual effects that are added in do not give pagan/wicca religion any respect at all.

I come from a family of witches and I can say the show relates to my life except for the special effects. We do have a black cat a bunch of leather bound books with spells and potion recipes in them we live in a big house just like she dose and I just love the show.
SkyiRacer@aol.com

well, it's is just a show, but all the people that we would be worried about are a bunch of air heads who don't know fiction from reality!! i think that the people making it don't know more than that people like it, and that really, the magical part of it is only there for a little extra "adventure", to catch the people's atention, and make them watch the rest of the plot parts. its basicly a trap, and with out the wichy part, it would just be another drama.

merry meet.
first of all, i do i agree with the other coments that this is just a show and that is does no harm. it does not, n e way, affend me. but let's look @ this 1 thing: this show is symbolising all witches as immortals who run around ZAPPING people and running into the other realm which is n the linen closet. if children watch this show, they r most likely apt to countinue with these images (made by Hollywood) throughout the remainder of their life. so they will always view witches n a negetive or at least n a FICTICIOUS way. i would allow my children to watch it but uh......veiwer discrection is advised.

I think that sabrina the teenage witch is a good T.V. show. Granted it does take the powers of witches to an extreme but it's just entertainment. I think that it's great to have a T.V. show about witches that shows they are normal people not saitinist. The show isn't even giving "US" a bad name. So i see it as a funloving entertaing T.V. show that my family and i enjoy every week.

Blessed Be,

I don't have a problem with the show. It's a fun show that people can enjoy. But on the other hand, when I told my family that I wanted to study Wicca Magick, the first image they got (especially my brother) was of Sabrina. So, although it is a fun show I think they could do a better job on making it a bit more realistic.

This is SO funny!Personally?I give it 2 thumbs up! It's hilarious @ times...What is the big deal? "WE" all know it's not real!So what? It's a comedy, and a TV SHOW.

I am a 35 yr.old male ,Solitary, eclectic Wiccan...I have been one since 1981. Almost 20 yrs.The show is NOT us...We know that..OK?The whole problem is that some ppl.,who say they are "open minded", are just as hung up with the big egos, and are afraid of "looking like fools".

Aren't we Pagans and Wiccans supposed to be working to develope ourselves? And learn all that we can in this life?So why does it matter if this show is about a teenage witch?I would rather look a fool, than have people fear what I love.Remember, the fool is not what he seems either....I hope things like these shows help ppl to not fear us.That makes acceptance that much closer. And greater freedom.

Why did the burning times occur?Fear and ignorance. Give it up,y'all. This anger only hurts US....

Personally, I find Sabrina to be a cute and entertainging show and often watch it. Perhaps it is a completely inaccurate portrayal of the life of people who call themselves witches, but the question I ask is this:
Is it really meant to be? The idea of this type of television show is, after all, to entertain. Sabrina does manage to do that (if that is through pure Hollywood glitz, then so be it).

My point is this, the show isn't really at all about what it truly is to be a witch, it's about acceptance. The story line takes a perfectly normal teenage girl and puts her into the role of one of the most persecuted and misunderstood characters of all time; a witch. If you watch the show, you can plainly see that many of the story lines are about facing various problems that plague every one of us as we grow up (ie: love, self-acceptance, ratty girls who are high out of their minds on their own egos, ect.) All things considered, I think the show is very good and not to be taken so seriously as to be insulted by it.
Blessed Be!

I think this is a poor perspective of witches. It shows that a witch can just say a spell and poof it happens that vey second. It also shows things appearing out of thin air.
Giggles-2@webtv.net

I think Sabrina is an excellent show for children. It's a non-scary witch show!
rybak@empireone.net

i don't like Sabrina The Teenage Witch it gives a false example of wiccans. Although when Sabrina does something wrong when casting a spell she does have to fix it. but the over all impression i get from that show is that alot of people want to be Sabrina because they want to be able to get things they want instead of being intune with nature and actually believeing in the goddess and the god

thanx

I find it quite interesting that those who can see some kind of truth in the TV show "sabrina.." and adapt it to their own situation, are mostly women. Men seem to be very reluctant (at least accordingly to this survey) and find the show to be "not representative to what we do".

A sad sight.

Sabrina The Teenage Witch totally misrepresents our religion. First of all, we are called Wiccans, not Witches. Witch was the name the church made up for us because they do not accept what was once their true religion, yet if you look close enough at the churches setup you will find so many similarities. This show is fun to watch but makes kids start believing that they are witches when they have no idea that what they see on the show cannot really happen.
Mopaige83@aol.com

I watch the show every Friday and personally I think you shouldn't take so hard I mean the writers aren't trying to give us a bad name I think thery're just trying to show the problems of teens in a comical way .
Macs85@aol.com

the show is cool in no way does it offend me the show contains no real witchcraft and come wouldnt we all just like to point and make things happen
Browne6802@aol.com

I truly love this show, but like what everyone else has said it gives other people the wrong idea about what witches really are. I know that we can't do all of that stuff, but people who do not study witchcraft, or haven't read about it don't really get what it is really about. So many people i know depict witches as evil or they just think of them in otherwise wrong ways, and they really don't know what it really is.

"Sabrina" is a personal favorite of mine, not because it relates to us, since it doesn't , but because it is really funny and it gives me a new opinion of what we stand for. If those people don't get it, they need to read about it and not get the wrong idea when they just saw a show.

come on people,
its a show, it was meant to be for entertainment not to show the real aspects of being a witch. And noone can say that at some time in their life they thought that it would be nice to have powers like that, and at least they don't make witch's look like evil ugly beings, they make them look like every day people. If you don't like the show you don't have to watch it!

Thanks for providing such a valuable space. I've just been reading the comments on Sabrina the Teenage Witch. I do not currently practice Wicca, although I am exploring it extensively this last year. In some ways, it is sort of like Sabrina getting her witches license. My 9 year old neice loves the show. At some point in the near future, I plan on coming out as a Pagan to my family. And one of the ways I intent to make it more comfortable for them is to draw similarities between what they have seen on the show, and what is the truth. So, in some ways it could be a useful tool for starting a conversation that can lead to more enlightenment on both sides of the table. And IMHO, enlightenment is almost always a good thing.

Come on people get a life. No matter what this TV Comedy portrays it is still a work of fiction. At least there is not blood, gore and raunchy sex scenes, I love to watch this show with my sons due to the uncurrent that no matter who or "what" you are everyone is entitled to there beliefs. As a wiccan I know that this is FICTION and every now and then don't we all need a break from reality. Come on people take it in the light in which it was written. It is a nice wholesome show fit for the whole family.
KirstenBe@aol.com

Sabrina is a nice show. HOWEVER, it doesn't have anything related to witchcraft whatsoever except the word "witch". For the informations as it seems many who have replied on this page don't know who Sabrina really is. Sabrina is a COMIC CHARACTER in the Archie's comic series. Nothing serious here, they do not attempt to portray anything real but only what was in the comic books. It's only a funny totally harmless sitcom intended for teenagers and young adults such as myself. :)
itchy@game-master.com

I think the show sends the wrong message completely yes it is cute for dumb children with nothing better to do than stare at the television screen 24/7 it makes people think that if a witch wiggles her nose and snaps her fingers something well happen well guess what sister......... it doesn't work that way......... -- Cruelty9@aol.com

I'm not a witch, but I like the show well enough to find out about the nature and truth of wicca. I thought I would bring up this point.
Nancy
