What are your feelings about the WB Show Charmed?

I love the show, Charmed. Yes, it's fantasy, but it's fun! Don't you wish your BofS could look that beautiful? :-) The producers are obviously careful to avoid too many overt Wiccan references (e.g., using the triquetra instead of a pentacle). They do get some factual stuff mixed up occasionally (like this season, where an athame was used by a demon as a weapon!?!?!), but I think it's generally harmless.

I use to watch this show every week and loved. Unfortunately I work at night and have missed a few episodes. Never the less, I give this show the two thumps up. It is so difficult to find a show or movie that does not portray witches in either a bad light or they just don't have the facts right at all. Yes I know this show is not the most accurate, but at least it's a start.

I have only seen Charmed a couple of times just to see what it was all about. It was a good comedy. They did not really to seem to have a clue about the real craft or their history, when they are supposed to be hereditary witches.

I never really got a grasp on the full story line, I guess it could be that I was too busy picking out what was wrong, a very bad habit of mine when seeing a new "Pagan" show or movie.

I like this show and I watch it every Thursday. I know it doesn't show witches accurately but who cares. At least they are good. It is fun to watch and it takes me away from this daily life.

It also a lot of good looking men on there too!!!!!!!!

All I have to say to people who claim that it doesn't use wicca in it is that early in its series, Pheboe often recited The Law of Three as well as other factoids. She still does that. I saw in an interview with Shannon Daughtery(spelling?) that she researched the Craft so much that people started to run from her. Albeit that is bad, it does mean that in the future we may see more of Our faith in the show.

Well, I just love Charmed!!! I don't believe witches, or anything like that, but, I don't know, I think I'm in love with magic, spells... Although I'm brazilian and Christian, I enjoy it very much.

Hi, My wiccan name is Psychic Lioness of the Mountain (Real name: Amanda) and I am a huge fan of Charmed. Piper, Phoebe, and Prue show that they are true to their wiccan heritage and they are only there to protect the innocent. It is this show along with Buffy, the Vampire Slayer and Angel which all portray witches as positive souls who defend the innocent against evil spirits, demons and have opened the doors to a world I didn't know about. I received my wiccan powers of ESP from my grandmother, Mormor ( who is from Great Britain as my parents are) from my mother's side of the family when she died when I was 10 yrs old. Since then, I have been known to see ghosts, predict the future, and protect the innocent from danger as those on Charmed do. I am also a White Witch who believes in the Christian Faith--so I guess you can call me a Christian Cowan. My birthday is on September 19, 1973.
Thanks kindly,
Blessed Be,
the Psychic Lioness of the Mountain

We need more shows portraying witchcraft as a good thing so that people can understand the reality of wicca. I only wish they had better actresses to relay this message to America. All three of them talk like they're 5 years old and dress like trash, especially Pru. She also needs to cut those stupid bangs that are forever hanging in her eyes. If they had better actresses, the show might be a lot better.

Hello!
I think that the television show 'Charmed' is not harming us. It is helping young witches see that they can be apart of Wicca and still dress and act like mortals.

I love this show and saw every episode of it. Its one of the few shows that shows wiccans in a positive way and especially don't portray Wiccans as satan worshipper. Everybody I know think that wiccans worship satan and this show might help change the view of the public about witchcraft.

Merry Meet, Charmed is loved and enjoyed by Witches and Christians alike. Everybody understands that it is fiction, as are movies about cops and robbers. Blessed Be.

ok guys, here's the thing: Don't be jealous because the charming trio on this show are "natural witches." Witches who naturally have heightened powers--albeit telekinesis and freezing are overexaggerated--don't need as much aid from stones, scents, oils and candles to get serious results from their spellcasting. Now, granted, a circle should always be cast when in the process of creating a spell, if for nothing else but your own protection. My mother was a "true witch" and she had powers to cast that I can only dream of inheriting someday. I must use every stone, oil, herb and so on to have success with my spells, including coinciding the spellwork with moonphases and seasons. I have only recently been able to catch a glimpse of another's aura, and I am currently perfecting my power of touch as I have always been told that my fingertips emit heat--even before my hands have even touched the other person!

Its clear that this t.v. show is a glamorized version of true witchcraft. But lets face it...the girls are beautiful, everything they do is for the good of others, and even if the goddess is never mentioned...we all know that if this were reality, she would live deeply rooted in the trio's hearts.

Blessed Be, and always use your powers for good!!!
Cleverwtch@aol.com

I love the show, but I don't feel it was meant to portray Wiccans. In fact, the three witches in the show do not have much of the knowledge and beliefs that I feel are the heart of Wicca. They never relate to the Goddess, let alone the God. They never cast a circle. They don't use tools. I think the show is great publicity to promote witches as good beings and not demons, and I think it would be a fool who took the show literally and assumed that all people who consider themselves witches believe that they have powers like the three sisters. But for those of us who do know what Wiccans believe, we can tell that the show does not portray our practices accurately. So watch it for entertainment, and see it as a way for others to loose their inhibitions about our ways, and perhaps do some research to find out what we are all about.
Jen

I really like the show, however I don't use it as a learning tool, they don't really "practice" the craft, seems to me they do it more in their spare time or when there is some "demon" after them, I do ,however, really like their BOS it has great artwork in it, which gives me ideas for my own. MORE INTERTAINING THAN INFORMATIVE.

I love the show Charmed because it is a more positive view on WitchCraft and Wicca. There is of course a lot of glamor added but that is mainly for entertainment. I wish they would include more stuff about the God/ess to make it a little more factful. I think it is the best series yet. Bewitched is one of the series, nothing like Wicca/WitchCraft but it is fun to watch. BB.

I love charmed! it is the best program on tv! I have never missed a episode and alsoI like all of them, and the cop isn't bad looking. hehehe. I hope it stays on forever its great!

I think Charmed is one of the best shows to date. Even though quite inaccurate, I never miss an episode and cry if I do. I love the show. I have to admit I'm a sap for the WB, all my shows being theirs. At least witches are in the positive light. Not everyone wants to do the needed researching for something they don't want to get into, and most of the population that watches it, doesn't care. But now when we say witch, its like, cool.
DizyDream@aol.com

Despite the inaccuracies, we still think that Charmed is not all that bad. I mean, Aaron Spelling didn't just wake-up one day and said "Yeah, I'm gonna make a show to diss witches!" He's not part of the craft, and we can't expect so much from him.

Also, it is the most accurate show on T.V. on the portrayal of witches. Although they have not done their homework I would give it a B-. Atleast they don't portray us as devil-worshipping Satanists. Plus, even if you got the most accurate show possible to air on T.V. alot of people would still consider it fiction or Satanists anyway. Some people have a closed mind, we can't change that, no WB show can either, UNFORTUNATELY.

Blessed Be...

I have been watching Charmed since the first episode and find it an entertaining show. As always, it is certainly not a true portrayal of Wicca but we are still in the ages where people call anything to do with magic, in the common understanding of the word, 'witchcraft'. So practicing Wiccans know that witchcraft is the word for their magickal practice but time has certainly changed its meaning in the eyes of Christian society and I guess even other mainstream religions. Language evolves over time with use and develops different meanings. I see no point in getting into a flap about that. Although the show is fantasy and certainly Wiccans are not "given" extraordinary powers, at least the witch type shows of recent times have moved to presenting the "witch" as a positive person more likely to help than harm. Even with Bewitched, which was created years ago, Samantha is presented as a person of love and care. There are a lot of shows that base on 'psychic' powers that we certainly don't see in reality and they are not always called witches.

My feeling is that when such shows are entertaining people watch them and although most people are unlikely to believe in the abilities displayed, the new trend to presenting these people as using their "powers" for good is a real step in removing the old fears and superstitions that have surrounded magic and its condemnation. Perhaps it is a closer step to reality than superman! He had enormous powers but no one was afraid of him but the 'baddies'. Certainly no one considered him coming from Satan. Our acceptance of extrasensory abilities has at last moved into the human race. Although Wiccans know there is no such thing as "white magick" and "black magick" as such, films that show people with magickal powers they use heroically, at least is opening the minds of society in general, therefore opening them to acceptance of Wiccans without fear.

May harmony and love surround you and yours,
Blessed Be

I actually love charmed. it gives the most accurate info on witchcraft then any other show i have seen. So does buffy the vampire slayer. While it is not entirely accurate most of the times, it does better then any other show
TheMeAnd1@aol.com

I am rather new to the wicca/witch/craft path. My 9 year old wanted to watch Charmed one night, so I sat and watched with her. We love it! I too think it is not all that accurate, but it does give me a jumping off point to talk to her about witchcraft and goddesses and altars and powers, etc. As a bonding tool, I give it a big thumbs up! (I think my daughter may be a good little witchlet someday!)
BB!
Misty I love the show. I do realize that it is not a correct portrayal of the Wiccan religion, but I think it is helping to show we are not 'evil' or run around in pointy black hats eating children. I think it is shedding some light into a shadow which deserves it.
Blessed Be,

I admit to watching Charmed every Wednesday. To be honest, I think that the show has introduced a new face (or perhaps I should say the true face) of Wicca to the general public. The show portrays these three sisters as guardian angels, helpers of the weak, protectors of the 'innocents,' instead of devilish demons, murderers, and freaks that hollywood would have the public believe we are. Considering the damage that movies like the Craft have done to the religion's reputation, I think this show is a good start on getting the media to try and help people understand us better. True, Charmed is a poor manifestation of the true Craft, but it at least is better than Sabrina the teenage witch or Bewitched. For centuries, people have been told that witchcraft is a horrible thing to be feared and destroyed at all costs; even a silly show like this can help improve our image. Perhaps we should just live with it and hope that soon some more enlightening programing will come to salvage our much abused reputation in the near future.
Linzi

I think Charmed is funny, but some things aren't the same as my religion, but anyone's religion is different. Like demons: I'm a wiccan and I don't believe in Satan or Demons, but that may be my problem. I see it as humor.
Kat Bjelland

charmed is great every week i'm in front of the t.v watching the witches i give it 2 thumbs up
Lilly91210@aol.com I see nothing wrong with the show it is entertaining and fun! why does every thing have to be realistic?
starlight

I love "Charmed", never miss an episode. I know that half the things you can only take with a grain of salt but I also know that it's a show for entertainment, not education. The fact that Pagans and Wicca are shown positively is a great thing. There are still television shows that portray the "evils" of Witchcraft. I also thought that the way they showed [on Buffy the Vampire Slayer] the way those who aren't informed reacted to finding out that a few students were Wicca. All in all, the shows are very entertaining but not to be watched for information purposes. =)
Snowfem1@aol.com

The show "Charmed", Thursday nights on WB at 9:00p.m. EST, may be for the most part inaccurate, but look how far society and television has come to show ANYTHING about wicca. And, not everything is inaccurate (BOS, the effort to use correct terminology, the wiccan law 'an' it harm none, do as ye will", and the Rule of Three). It has also been a great way to introduce our kids to Wicca, being that their schools, daycare's, and relatives are very Christian oriented and the understanding of the Wiccan religion is just not quite 'there' yet with society.
Serena

Okay, I admit being a watcher of Charmed and Buffy. They are both terribly inaccurate. I do find it is a good way to initiate conversations with my fellow employees and set the record somewhat straight. Many times I find myself yelling at the TV screen when Charmed does things such as portraying Hecate as a 1,000+ year old demon instead of the protecting Goddess that she is. An interesting side note-The auction house is called "Buckland's"- I think that shows someone has done a small(although admittedly too small) amount of research.
Macha

I like the show Charmed, I never miss it. However It does not resemble reality. I enjoy it as I do Star Trek. It's great for entertainment, but believe everything said.

I have watched charmed since the first episode and i love it. Every week you never now what to expect especially piper turning into a were wolf and pheobe disowning her sisters. Prue really has not don nothing bad? Loved charmed
richard@azweb.com

I find the show entertaining and I enjoy it very much. On occasion there is even accurate information. I know it was never intended to be educational so therefore I do not get upset for its inaccurate portrayal of being a Witch/Wiccan. At the very least its a positive portrayal and for that I am grateful. I can always hope that one day the show will take on a more true to life aspects. Hey, we have to remember.. our lives for the most part of pretty normal and would not exactly make an exciting show. So I am grateful for what is being given.

Blessings of the Lady to all,
Wanda

Although this show is fairly inaccurate in it's portrayal of Witchcraft, it does have some redeeming qualities. For once, the Witches are portrayed as good people, rather than evil, devil-worshiping people. Also, some realism does sneak in occasionally. One episode, for example, was titled "Something Wiccan This Way Comes". These Witches also have a Book of Shadows, and I have heard them say, "Blessed be" before. That's about the extent of the accuracies, however, that's more than one can say for The Craft which made a total mockery of Witchcraft.
Elohim555@aol.com

We watch Charmed every week. Yes it is still Hollywood but it is closer than another show has ever come. Lets home they keep going closer.
mademe@bellsouth.net

Although the show is inaccurate, it is very entertaining. Besides, if they put a completely accurate t.v. about Wicca on the air, it would be more of a documentary than entertainment. Wicca has been very publicized in the last few years, and is drawing a number of people to it who have watched t.v. shows like Charmed and become interested. I was drawn to Wicca at a young age (around 3 or 4) and I have studied it since I was 10. When I finally realized that it was what I believed in, I became a Wiccan, and I hope that the more recent positive portrayal of Wicca will cause other people to do the same.

Goddess Bless,
Jaia

I rarely miss the show. But I sure would like to see someone draw up a screenplay where these initiates are brought into a circle, and touch on the dedication, study, and time needed to actually spend on the craft. Also, note in Buffy the vampire slayer, Willow has membered in a small coven, she too needs to be updated, and mentored.
SNUFFY3724@aol.com

My name is Taryn and I'm 16. As my tastes would indicate, I was interested when Charmed first aired. I didn't expect it to be anywhere near accurate, though it is much more accurate than Sabrina the Teenage Witch for example. The accuracy, it turns out, seemed to hit in a few areas only. I found it offensive that the show states you must be born with the powers portrayed on the show, especially since no witch really has those powers (with the possible exception of ESP and, going out on a LONG limb, telekinesis). I thought wicca was a religion you're supposed to adopt and love, not an easy way to gain a few magickal abilities. My problem with the show is not just the inaccuracies, but the predictable stories, the dragging on of useless scenes, and the somewhat selfish ways the witches seem to use their "gifts." But of course I suppose in that respect, my beef is with Hollywood, and not with you fine people. I'm not 'dissing' Charmed. It can be quite entertaining, at times. Yet as someone who usually flocks to these kinds of shows with an open mind, I was not all that impressed. Thanks for listening and Blessed Be.
Taryn

I personally don't like the show "Charmed" on the WB. I have to admit, it DOES put us in a better light, but it is still a stereotypical show. What really tends to make me mad is that people don't seem to realize Witches are real people - not just legends (or Satanist old hags). Most people nowadays wouldn't DARE to make a show stereotyping any other ethnic people or religions of any other kind. . .so why Witches? I believe all shows like Sabrina the Teenage Witch, Charmed, Bewitched, etc. shouldn't be programed. I may sound rigid but I feel that we should be treated just as everyone else.
-Sean-

Personally i enjoy the show charmed because its entertaining. Its as simple as that I enjoy watching it it is a very exciting show. Even if it exaggerates a little or just plain lies its a good show.
Tweety6726@aol.com

As a television and film producer, I would like to say that "Charmed" is a beautifully made television show. The acting, writing, and directing are first-rate. As a solitary witch, I would like to say that while the show lacks accurate portrayal of Wiccan belief and ritual, its commitment to illustrating witchcraft in a positive light is wonderful! Anything that takes the negative out of our way of life can only be positive. At the very least, hopefully some viewers will choose to really study what Wiccan and Pagan witchcraft is. If only one person learns the truth and ends their cycle of hatred and misunderstanding, I say, Blessed Be, "Charmed"!
WOLFFBYTS@aol.com

I like the show "Charmed". I personally don't know anyone with powers like that, but I wish I had them! ;-) I think it is helpful to our public image to have many different positive images out there as possible. And the fact that these sisters can't and don't do harm, can't and don't apply the craft to material gain, save people from evil demons, etc. etc. is good for us. It might be outlandish but it's better than the image of the old crone stirring a cauldron of toads eyes and bat's wings. Showing the craft positively, even if far fetched, can only generate more positive research and interest in the craft.
D. White

About the tv show "Charmed," I have mixed reactions to it. I enjoy the program since it portrays the three sisters as "good witches." It does help fight the inaccurate stereotype of all witches being satanic and evil. These sisters are good, and use their "powers" for protection and helping others. The first program also indicated that powers without control can be dangerous, a wise warning in my opinion. However, the show also rubs a raw nerve if you will. The "powers" these three women have is the typical stereotype. Throw things across the room by will alone, able to stop time, fire from the fingers, the typical views that most people have towards the craft. The show also indicated that "witches" are born by birthright alone, and not by faith. In the program, the grandmother died, and her powers were passed down into the three sisters. The show also fails to mention the Goddess or God, and so far no worship of any kind has taken place.

I feel this is the closest thing to an accurate representation of the craft to have ever come out of Hollywood, but that isn't saying much. However, I do plan to keep watching the program, mostly for male hormone reasons... :)

I believe that the new wb show charmed is the best I've seen in a long time. The main characters are witty and sometimes funny. I love the plots and storylines. The oldest sister is always the one that seems to have the most problems. The other two always have to go over her head to get anything done. I'm looking forward to more episodes in the future. I hope that the oldest sister and her cop boyfriend get there relationship on track. And I still think that they should train that cat to be more friendly.

I started watching the show "Charmed" from the first episode and have been hooked ever since. I have been interested in witchcraft since I was a teen but have never got involved because I did not know where to start.

This show has given me a place to start my research. I never heard of Wicca until it was mentioned in a recent episode. Although it's just a TV show, I have found it to more related to the real thing than anything else I've seen.

My sister and I were lucky enough to visit the set and wander around on our own while they were filming. The first thing I tried to find was the "Book of Shadows" to see if it really existed and if there was any info on where to start, unfortunately it was not in the attic.

From that point I turned to the internet and WOW! Just by using the information I learned from the show, I am now on my way to where I want to go. If not for the mention of Wicca and the "Book of Shadows" in the show, I may never have found what my true religion is. I was shocked that the "Book of Shadows" really existed.

I am sure that not everything in the show is factual, but it does give you some background and insight on the craft. The show is more related to the reality of witchcraft than anything I've seen so far.

Robert

I think that "Charmed" is the best portrayal of wicca I've seen up to date. They use the right terms in the episodes, the same sayings, and it shows that the makers of the series did a bit of research.I personally enjoy looking at this series, however,I'm not too sure about those "evil warlocks".Pretty good effort, and plus,it may show the general public that witches aren't bad.

well, i love the show even if it isn't 'accurate', i even joined the mailing list to see what is going on at the show, but i made the mistake of asking people if they had heard of Wicca before the show had started and i got a lot of good responses, until one girl started complaining and asking why i was there, she didn't want to hear about it...she only wanted to hear about the show, but the show is about three 'witches' who claim to be Wiccan so i figured it to be relevant.. oh well sorry to rant, i love the show it does a lot to bring to light that we 're not devil worshippers and it will help bring Wicca out of the shadows a bit and most people will try to find out what the real story is. i hope!!!!!!
blessings and light!!!!!!

The first episode I ever watched showed an accurate altar and the correct pronunciation of athame. This raised an eyebrow and intrigued me enough to watch the rest of the show. I've been hooked ever since. This may be a little overdone in the special effects department at times but that is probably just to get the viewers. The demons tend to be a little too much "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" too but most of the story lines contain little bits of truth to them. The overall feeling of love and that witchcraft is used for good purposes makes it worth the hour of viewing time. I recommend it highly. Witchcraft through the years on television is slowly becoming more accurate. One day you will finally see a show that isn't 'about the craft' but rather one of many characters on the show who happens to practice the religion. I think that is the only way that it will ever be shown in it's true light is when it isn't the focus of the show. Until then we can keep supporting the few snippets of positive PR we do get and encourage the next steps of TV evolution.

Merry Meet..
As far as how much I like the show Charmed, I adore it as entertainment. It is fun to watch and has good veiwer interest and helps to dispell the myth of Satanic witches. But while taking away one myth it is building on another. This myth can hurt us witches almost al much because it is false.

On the show the sisters, Prue, Poebe, and Piper get together and they receive their powers with a POW. Prue can move objects with her mind, Piper can freeze time, and Phoebe can see the future. Some of these to an extent are true but you do not get an ability like that in five minutes.

One of my friends, one of the few that knows i am a witch, asked me if i could do things like that. No, I am not a little white witch fighting vampires and demons and freezing time at any little whim of mine. I dont think that even the most advanced Witch could do that without any preparation.

I would like to say things like Charmed,Bewitched, Sabrina the Teenage Witch etc; are shows about witches but they are not chock full of truth. Before anybody thinks on their sixteenth birthday they will levitate out of bed, go to school and turn your worst enemy into a pineapple or a goat, read some books about it and ignore the linen closet to another realm concept.
Hazel

First off you have to understand that I'm a teenager and with that comes the territory of wanting to watch the "fantastic." My favorite program is Buff the Vampire slayer so that tells you what my tastes are. Now I will say that "Charmed" does not show an accurate view of Wicca, but who's says that it was meant to? The whole purpose of the show is to entertain and it does accomplish that task. How better to entertain than to base their characteristics on the stereotypical attributes of a witch? I do believe that it can lead naive teenagers into trouble, but that's inevitable. It's meant to be enjoyed and I thoroughly enjoy "Charmed." I think part of the reason why I enjoy it so much is knowing that it's not accurate. It's not meant to be taken seriously. It's a fun show, even my Christian mom watches it with me.
