how do you get started on an alter?

To get started all you need is a space to build it (eg a coffee table, shelf or similar), possibly a piece of fabric (preferably natural) which you feel is very 'you' to act as an altar cloth, and representatives of the elements. This is where you can get creative; read a couple of books (there's a question dealing with recommended books on this site) for ideas. an example of each element could be: a crystal for earth a feather for air a candle for fire a bowl or glass of water or other liquid (wine, orange juice etc) for water then just add items which are inspirational to you ~ statues if you have any, photos of special people/places...the best judge of what to put on your altar is you. have fun! :)
