Witch's
Brew Asks

i am just starting my interest in wicca but can not find an elder to take me on as an aprentice in my area any ideas

Merry Meet I know it is a challenge to study Wicca without a formal teacher or elder but in my opinion (as one who has never worked within a coven or group or been formally taught) it is exciting and fulfilling. Part of the beauty of the Wiccan religion is that you can tailor it to suit your specific spiritual needs- but at all times remember what you do (good or bad) comes back at you. We Wiccans accept all responsibility for our own actions and that can be really tough! In order to learn Wicca you do not need a teacher, for you with the help of the Goddess and God can be your own teacher, you need courage. A wealth of information is already available to you in the form of books (I personally recommend Wicca, a guide for the Solitary Practitioner by Scott Cunningham, Llewellyn publications and Living Wicca as beginners texts), webpages and most importantly within yourself and nature. You already know a lot about this magical religion (pardon the pun). You now just need to access it. Trust your heart and intuition and use your common sense, observe and feel nature and you will begin to know Wicca. There is no easy way to become Wiccan nor are there many rules(Only one: Harm none). Watch the sun and the moon rise and the stars and the cycles of nature and you will experience nature and you will experience Wicca. The Goddess and the God have shown you this path but it is your choice whether or not to walk it, and it is a decision that must not be taken lightly. May they bless you with wisdom, courage and power! Bright Blessings Trish ;)

Hi... To be perfectly honest I would recommend reading a wide variety of books, magazines, websites and anything else you can find on the topic, and forging your own path, as opposed to being moulded in someone else's image. There is a section on this site where readers list their favourite books...try a few of those & see what you think. One of the main points of Witchcraft is individualism, anyway, so the notion of a 'higher' figure who can impart untold knowledge to you is pretty bogus anyway. Hope you find what you were looking for... :)

just keep plugging forward, for this saying has always proven to be true in my life: When the student is ready, the teacher will appear. BB!

I suggest that a good starting point is to subscribe to the "Witchhaven" email list as I did when I took my first tentative steps online, wondering what "Strange" people these "Witches" were. Having done so I was led to my teachers and was Initiated 1st degree Georgian Tradition June 8 2002. If it can happen to me it can happen to you. BTW I live in Adelaide South Australia, my teachers live in Bakersfield California, so anything is possible if you have faith and good people to guide you. Blessings Taliesin

i believe we are all looking for answers, until you can find (you) and truly know yourself i mean not your body but the being, you will have a hard time understanding what you want out of a faith or way of life . Live it, think it, and it will fall into your lap.

I've been trying to become an aprentice for over a year now. I have information on one spell and a few names of variations. I know about Gerald Garner(founder of Gardnerian Wicca),Eclectic Wicca, Alexandrian Wicca, and Gardnerian Wicca. That's all I've learned so far. I'm still trying to become an aprentice. Anybody looking for an aprentice? Got any
