Midsummer is the longest day of the year. It is a lesser Sabbat and it represents the Sun King in all his glory.
Midsummer Night's Eve has always been associated with Faery Magick. This is a good time to honor the faeries with an offering. It is said if you stand inside of a faery ring, you will be able to see the faeries on this night.
It is best to gather magickal herbs on this Sabbat, especially St. John's Wort (which is used for protection) and Mistletoe (Protection as well). Others that are traditionally gathered and used are vervain, heartsease, mugwort and lavender.
The Moon of the month of June is called the Mead Moon or the Honey Moon.
June is the most favorable time for marriages and the honeymoon is of pagan origin. Tossing the garter and bouquet are also derived from pagan traditions. Many couples have their handfasting at Midsummer.
It is also believed that if a woman walked naked through her garden on midsummer night, she will become fertile.
